Costume Design: Internships
This Costume Design category includes my work from interning in Purdue University's Costume Shop and my work from interning with Champaign-Urbana Theatre Company as Costume Shop Assistant and Costume Designer Assistant.
As part of my role as costume design assistant I helped pull all of the prairie dresses. I sized them, helped chose each one for the actresses, and I then did various alterations to the costumes to make them work for the show.
One of the main alterations I did was let the purple gingham skirt out and redo the waistband so that it would fit the actress perfectly.
I took measurements and alteration notes so we could be able to give other stitchers tasks.
"My Name is Caroline," the introduction in which you see Caroline center stage full costume. Linked is an article written about the show.
The actor goes from a stage hand to William by stripping off his black ensemble on stage and having his historic look underneath.
Caroline and William go to Amsterdam. For this show I researched fashions of the time period, pulled costume pieces, and made minor alterations.
Pictured here is the actor portraying the mother of Caroline and William by taking his costume and adding a shawl on stage.
Pictured left is the character Audrey. I draped, patterned, and constructed her dress. I also did the alterations and hem for the dress.
For the dress I made a box pleated skirt and a boned bodice that were then sewn together.
